Movement and raising in sasak language
Tranformation study of government and binding model
Keywords:
NP-Movement, Pasivisation, Predicate raising, Wh-movementAbstract
The aim of this research is to describe the application of movement and raising in the Sasak language. Movement and Raising are subtheories of Government and Binding (GB) (Chomsky, 1982). Movement and Raising theory is applied to examples: passivization, predicate raising and Wh-Movement in the Sasak language. Data collection was carried out using documentation and literature methods along with GB analysis instruments. The results and findings show that passivity can be seen in the thematic relationships determined by the argument structure of passive verbs that have a subject and passive verbs that do not have a subject. The absence of a subject is indicated by the symbol e (empty). Second, the noun phrase (NP) has the internal theta role of the prepositional phrase (PP) and the phrase gets the internal theta role directly from the head verb. From each example of NP displacement, there is an empty element marked with the symbol e in the position that NP has left. The findings show that coindexation marking is used to express that the empty element is coindexed with the NP in subject position. The empty category which marks the base position of the constituent that is moved to leave a trace is then termed a trace which is symbolized by the symbol (t).
