Abstract

This study focuses on analysing the language attitudes of students studying Indonesian as a foreign language on the Bipas in-country learning programme at Udayana University in Bali. The study particularly investigates whether the language attitudes of foreign students learning Indonesian on the programme change by the end of the course. The study involved 38 foreign students and 5 Indonesian lecturers in the Spring 2024 semester. Survey techniques and interviews were used to collect the data. The results show that despite the Balinese community's maximum support for students using the Indonesian language, their attitudes towards Indonesian language undergo positive changes from the beginning to the end of the course. The affective and conative dimensions are especially clear in this, as well as in their perception of how easy learning is. However, the cognitive dimension related to career value remains relatively low.
