A critical review of empirical studies on women's representation in indonesian textbooks
Keywords:
Women, Representation, Text, DiscourseAbstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the discourse elements of women's power relations in the text. This study used data from Indonesian integrated textbooks for 2nd-grade elementary schools. In addition, textbooks are a form of research. This study uses field data analysis methods. Data collection techniques include checklists, interviews, and documentation of language forms in textbooks. The theory used in this research is discourse analysis theory (Dijk 1993). The results of this study show that the text contains discourse elements such as microstructure, macrostructure, and superstructure that refer to male power relations. Microstructure contains grammatical elements that include references, deletions, and conjunctions. In Indonesian elementary school integrated subject textbooks, the macro elements are context, situation, and context of culture. Character values are implicitly described by text characters. The microstructure, macrostructure, and superstructure of the data show the dominance of women's relations.
